What school does to a conversation

Matthew and I were sitting on our porch last night admiring the view, and watching the violently active lightening show over the west side. We were sitting in perfect silence when out of no where, Matthew gives me a pop quiz:
“Recite, from zero up to 10^12 and from zero to 10^-12, the SI units.”
“You’re serious?… *sigh* 10^3 is Kilo, 10^6 is Mega, 10^9 is Giga, 10^12 is Tera, 10^-3 is milli, 10^-6 is micro, 10^-9 is nano, and 10^-12 is pico.”
“Very good.”
“Since you know everything, Captain Valedictorian of SI, define an essential node.”
“Um…. three actions intersecting at a single bid’ness. …Right?”
“I’d give you full credit for that answer.”
