Hank the Cowdog

I’m unsentimental. I think we all know this. Therefore, I’m not prone to buying toys, clothes, or candy for my niece and nephews, and rather see fit to shower them with books. I’m convinced that a strong mind is built on a foundation of reading and an authentic love of reading. My memory is peppered with recollections of sitting around the lunch table and glancing up to see our other heads obfuscated by the covers of the books their noses were in.

But, since you can’t immediately have a kid read Jane Austin and Tolkien, I figured to start slow. I’ve been buying them the  Hank the Cowdog collection of books, 3 at a time, for various significant occasions such as Christmas, birthdays, etc… Fantastic books with gripping stories and the kind of old west humor that is as dry as the desert it comes from.  I loved these books as a kid.  Hopefully William, Luke, Sam, and Anah do, too.

I’d also recommend “Walter the farting dog” series.
