Montana Vacation Picture Essay

We went to Montana, not just to see Montana, but to go to the wedding of Matthew’s cousin Nathan of the great and mighty Schularick clan. I got to meet them again and get to know them better and I have to say I enjoyed every minute of it. We flew into Missoula rather than directly to Kalispell, partly to save $400 and partly to get to drive through the beautiful countryside. The first thing we noticed when we flew in was the smoke. It turned out that Montana was largely on fire, and the results for us were more on the visual obfuscation of things than any direct threat.
While Matthew went to get the car, I went to get the baggage. As I glanced around the terminal taking in all the fine shot and stuffed specimens of wild game that littered the airport, I glanced up to behold this looming over the baggage claim:
This was just the first indication of just how great our time in Montana was about to be. We drove into Polson and had lunch, and proceeded onward north to just 30 minutes south of Kalispell where the Lutherans own a little piece of God’s sacred earth:
Where I promptly jammed my non-Lutheran feet into the lake water:
Later that first evening, we met up with the Schularick family:
And we hiked to see great vistas:

The wedding went off with out any visible hitch, even though it was plagued by bees who were after the bright white people and their Lutheran grape juice.

Matthew was rendered victim by one such bee who stuck its stinger into Matthew’s finest gesturing finger (I think we all know which one that is) causing it to swell up and grow sore. It was a great vacation. A great wedding. And a great privilege to meet such admirable people as are the Schularicks. I hope to interact with them again.
Someday, I wish to call Montana “home.”
