The TRUE Surreal Life

Posted by E-George on October 3, 2007

Matt: “I’ll clean up all the kitchen so you can go study.”

Elisa: “No, really, I can help.  Let me help.”

Matt: “I’ll do the dishes.  I’m going to do the dishes.”

Elisa: “I can help. At least let me load the dishwasher so everything fits.”

Matt: “Fine.  But, I’m washing the pans.”

How many women really ever have that conversation so much as once in their marriage?  For us, it’s a raging battle of Who Gets To Do More For The Other Person.  The winner gets to simultaneously brag about and moan over how much of their life was spent supporting the other’s endeavors.   Right now, I think Matt’s in the lead.

A direct quote from my husband when I told him I’d like a night out with my girlfriends:

“Although I’ll just be getting back that night, and I’ll be missing you, I realize that you are long overdue for a fun time with your good friends. I am sure you’ll have a good time, and your well deserved time with your good buddies will improve your happiness and enrich our relationship. Have fun.”
