I’m losing my mind

Posted by E-George on January 28, 2008

I was sitting on the couch watching The Hunt for Red October when a Pedigree dog chow commercial voiced over by David Duchovny comes on.  It shows this loppie-eared little dog in the kennel and two people who come to look at him and then leave.  David Duchovny says something like, “For every dog that gets adopted there’s one that doesn’t.  A portion of your Pedigree purchase goes towards pet adoption to find dogs like Echo a home.” And this poor doggy was left in his kennel.  NOT. ADOPTED.   He was all looking through the bars of his kennel because those idiot people had to adopt some other dog who wasn’t Echo! Why wouldn’t they adopt poor Echo?!

And?  I damn near started bawling because NO ONE WANTS TO ADOPT ECHO!

Lord.  I need more sleep.

Hmm, poor Echo. Honestly, it is a bigger problem than just Echo… we have been doing doggie foster care and truly for every dog that is adopted it is more like 5 that don’t get a home. Most are euthanized (did they mention this in their ad?) Our fosters have all been PUREBREED dogs – if you can believe that. A recent one was even a champion Coton de Tulear – one of the more “trendy” breeds these days. I wish that there was a way to fine people for not spaying and neutering their pets as well as a per dog fee for every dog that a breeder sells so that shelters and fosters could do their work in the black. It is a serious problem.

It’s Echo’s own fault for being born a floppy dog. If he was Blue Heeler he’d be adopted by now. Harsh I know, but I just being honest here.=)
