Mixed tapes (or CDs)
Posted by E-George on April 14, 2008
I love getting mixed CDs as gifts, mostly because the person who made it sat down and, with me in mind, assembled a collection of songs they thought I would like. So far, I haven’t gotten a mixed CD that missed the mark. Lately I’ve been playing two mixed CDs endlessly.
The first, from Nathan called, “The Gestation Station: Music for people who are pregnant AND the people who made them that way”. Unfortunately, there isn’t an accompanying list of songs and artists, but suffice to say, it kicks some serious jazz-disco ass.
The next is from Ethan, called “Summersongs”. Ethan gave this to me five (yikes!) years ago, and I’m amazed it still plays after all the turns it has taken in the player. The song list is comprised of:
- Someone, Somewhere, in Summertime – Simple Minds
- Violence of Summer (Love’s T aking Over) – Duran Duran
- Summerhead - Cocteau Twins
- Summertime - The Sundays
- Summertime - Jim Hall & Pat Metheny
- Blue Skies - Harry Connick, Jr.
- Nimbus - 808 State
- Summer Sun - Koop
- Children of Summer - Color Filter
- That Sunday That Summer - Natalie Cole
- The Longest Summer - Pat Metheny
- The Last Day of Summer - The Cure
- Red Earth (As Summertime Ends) - Rain Tree Crow
- The Carnival is Over - Dead Can Dance
In between listening to the streaming live broadcast of the Dave Ramsey Show, I’ve been playing these two CDs constantly. They are like old friends that, once spinning through the speakers, track me back to times of great happiness and even greater memories.
