3 months

Today is Evelyn’s 3 month date of birth commemoration. It’s been easier in some ways than I had thought, and harder in others. Easier in that the caring of Evelyn throughout each day and night wasn’t as complicated or confounding as I had originally anticipated. It is amazing what instincts can do to clarify a swift solution to an otherwise mysterious tantrum. Harder in that it has been an almighty struggle to corral my own expectations of what I should or should not be able to accomplish in a given day.

Evelyn has crested the 10 pound mark, but she still doesn’t sleep through the night. She sleeps remarkably well, though, all things considered. On a normal night, she’ll be in bed between 6:30 and 7:00pm and sleep through until 1 or 2 a.m. After that, it’s a total crap shoot whether or not she’ll sleep another solid block or be up ever 45 minutes. But, since this only affects me I don’t spend a lot of energy worrying about it.

She’s become fabulously chatty, especially when resting on her changing table. Her arms and legs will pinwheel about and she’ll coo and chit chat as long as you are willing to stand there and respond with the occasional, “No kidding!” and, “I’ve heard that, but never in such an eloquent way.”

I have to start getting ready for her vaccination schedule to start. I’ve put it off as long as is sensible, but we need to get going on a few of these. I dread it, but less because I know the fussiness that will result, and more because I get dizzy thinking about her getting punctured by needles. I’m sure every mother feels (has felt) the same way. It’ll be an herculean act of instinct suppression not to swat the seven years of education right out of the doctor for making my baby cry.

I’ve really enjoyed her increased interactivity. She is more responsive and makes better eye contact than she had before. Her tendency to smile rather than fuss really does erase all the frustrations that may have piled up throughout the day or night. She’s a great baby. A true blessing.

wheeee! does someone in the family work for general mills?

momma can’t look when otto gets his shots. although the nurse is pretty efficient, he’s only had to get 2 shots at both the 2 and 4 month checkup.

My aunt works for GM and sent the onesies. Easily one of the coolest gifts we’ve received.
