Packing

Um. Yeah. Not much progress has been made on this task, but that is mostly my fault. I’m slowly coming around to the notion that it is the woman’s (wherein “Woman” refers to the allegedly top-tier female within a family structure) responsibility to gain and keep momentum on projects that are otherwise distasteful. Included in this are laundry, bathroom cleaning, sock folding, grammar homework, and, yes, packing to move.
Starting tomorrow, I have a plan of attack registered in my brain. Also starting tomorrow we get a MiniStorage container. It’s like a Pod, but without the expense. We’re going to use the MiniStorage to put all of the immediate need stuff in like furniture, toiletries, and clothing, and put everything else in the larger storage unit we still have on retainer just down the road. Given that so much of our stuff has already been packed as part of our decluttering exercise, it’s hard for me to focus enough to figure out where to start on this next round of packing. Everywhere I look I think to myself, But, we’re going to NEED that. Which, of course, if malarcky. I highly doubt we will ever NEED a casserole dish, least of all in the next 3 weeks. I think I’m going to take a room-by-room approach, wherein I pack the contents of an entire room, instead of bouncing around by box content genre. This is the first time I’ve ever moved anyone who isn’t just me, so my traditional method of packing hats into their own box and not packing clothes at all but merely transferring them in unceremonious piles is clearly not going to work if we are going to ever be able to dig ourselves out and get organized in the new place.
In other news, we decided to sell Matthew’s car and basically go back to a single car family. He is super motivated to ride his bike to work again, especially now since the new house has a gate from the backyard straight onto the open space trails that would take him directly to his regular bicycling route. At most, I think it adds a mile to his trip each way.
I’m starting to feel excited about the move. I’m going to feel more excited probably 2 months after we’ve moved because we’ll be completely out of boxes (fingers crossed!) and really tucked in.
